Wild on a Sugar Load

One of my favorite therapists calls this “sugar season”. It begins at Thanksgiving and ends at Easter. She says its great for business! Many of our children are wild on a sugar load! Lets take a look at what other things they eat that can increase wildness and therapy bills.

Toxins to Good Behavior

Some of our children react to nitrates. They are used in bacon, ham, salami, summer sausage, and pepperoni etc. to preserve meats. It can increase aggression and defiance because it makes them cranky.

Caffeine is another one that can be toxic to our little ones. Research shows it can reduce blood supply to the temporal lobes (where our memory is) by up to 25%. This is an area highly affected by alcohol before babies are born. Many of our children struggle with effects from that poison and the damage to this part of the brain. We want to increase the blood supply not decrease it for them to do well in school and at home.

Artificial colors and flavors can really create havoc! The liver has to filter all of those toxins out and it is often compromised in our children by drugs and alcohol before they are born. When the liver is struggling to remove poison we see a HUGE leap in violence. During Sprout’s last day of school the teacher “forgot” and gave him red sprinkles on a cupcake. I vote, next time, that happens the teacher gets to keep him the two and a half hours he rages. I wonder if she would have “forgotten” if it was a peanut allergy!

MSG (monosodium glutamate) causes the taste buds on our tongue to swell and enhances flavors because we taste things more. The problem with it is that it also causes the brain to swell in many people, which causes headaches and /or aggression. Companies have gotten sneaky to slip it in so we like their product and don’t realize. How’s that for having no integrity! I bought some broth and it said, “no added” MSG. I read the ingredients and it had yeast in it. Yeast is not a normal ingredient in soup! It goes in bread or brewing, but not soup! That’s a devious way to slip it in so their product tastes better and we have more excitement at home because our children EXPLODE! Most fast food restaurants add MSG. Below is a list of other terms used to slip MSG into us under the radar. BEWARE!

I hope your holidays are sweet, and your therapy bills are small this holiday season.

We can make a difference!
